Seven!

We started off the morning with a bang- we rushed out the door to an early morning free showing of the world's greatest movie- Horton Hears A Who. Being the frugal genius (or cheapest of all skin-flints) that I am, we brought our own popcorn, leftover licorice from the road trip, and bottled water. I have no pictures, but rest assured, it was thrilling (for the 4th time).
After spending the afternoon resting, reading, and making chocolate cupcakes, we headed over to the beach to meet up with lots and lots of our friends for a bbq.

(the girl in blue is our new friend, Lizzie, on whom Miles has developed quite a severe crush. He talked all day about showing her his new "super fast shoes".)

Everyone brought yummy things to share (my very favorite way of doing it) and we ate until we could eat no more. I felt it my duty to try each of the desserts so as not to offend anyone. Some I had to eat two of just to be sure they weren't offended.

Lucy was good about not offending any of the dessert makers as well.

We talked and laughed, pausing only to make sure we didn't have food in our teeth,

while the kids did perfectly safe things like tossing a football over the smoldering coals,

swinging a large plastic bat at each other,

or sliding down hills in a giant plastic dump truck.

In the end, we all helped take care of the leftovers,

made sure we were clean,

(it's hard to tell from this photo just how very many types of yuck are smeared all over his body.)
and headed home to wash our feet. You know it's a good day if this happens at bed time.

We might be sleeping in tomorrow. Some of us are a little over-tired.

You and Lucy look so much alike in the dessert non-offender pictures. What a fun day!
