Not always the happiest place on earth. . .
So, this much-anticipated day didn't go down exactly as I'd planned.
The flight to California was great, Calvin was a dream, the kids entertained themselves on the plane, we didn't lose anyone, nobody barfed, and all was looking good until. . .

(Lucy and Claire right before "the incident")
we were standing in line to buy our tickets to the park and Lucy took a nosedive from a bench onto the concrete.
Broken nose.
Lots of Blood.
Screaming.
Horrified onlookers.
Panicking father.
After getting directions to the closest pediatric hospital, my dad and I whisked her off in the car, while Jake and my mom ushered everyone else into the park. Lucy's brothers were very worried about her, but managed to enjoy themselves after a ride or two.
At the hospital, they ruled out head trauma and told her she could still ride the rides if she was careful. She was given a blessing and we returned to the park (where we skipped to the front of the line thanks to Lucy's giant purple nose), where she had a fabulous time and rode every roller coaster she was tall enough for.
We have to wait until the swelling goes down before we know if she needs a nose job or not. Seriously.
My five year old may be getting a nose job next week. Maybe we do belong in Greenwich after all. . .

Do a really tiny pinched nose like they did in the 80's. Then you can live in Greenwich or Beverly hills and fit in great!
If it wasn't so sad it'd be funny! Lucy was a trooper. It didn't seem to faze her one bit. Tough girl!
PS... Lucy has been mentioned in quite a few family prayers. "And bless Lucy's nose..." They were horrified that she almost missed disneyland! Glad she hasn't felt much pain. And thank heavens she can fix it if there turns out to be a problem. I can recommend an amazing plastic surgeon in Darien if you need one. Anna LOVED him. He was very kind and very good. And no pain. :)
Didn't the last time you went to Disneyland one of your kids got hurt? Was it Tate? Hope she is doing better! Enjoy your time with family.
Poor little thing, I hope she's feeling ok. She still looks cute, even with the purple swollen nose :)
Poor Lucy!!!!
I'm so glad Lucy got to do all the rides after the incident. She is still a beauty, purple nose or not.
I also know a pretty dang good ped. plastic surgeon here in Dallas who works miracles. But let's hope it doesn't come to that!
A vacation isn't a vaction without someone getting hurt or sick right? Hope she is feeling better. and I can't believe tate is 8 already. It seems like not long ago he was in my 5 year old primary class.
Holy Cow! Poor Lucy! Sure hope this can go down without plastic surgery...Poor, poor Lucy!
K, aside from Lucy's poor little nose, I love that first picture of your sis and your daughter, i love their expressions!
