Making winter lemonade

You know the saying, "If you've got lemons, make lemonade"? Well, here we were last week taking our lemon of a snow storm and making lemonade. It was SO much fun.

Jake trying to knock Uncle Jesse's head off with a snowball. Just look at that form!

For any of you living in the sun-kissed regions of the country, this is how you put your second snow glove on. With your teeth.

Tate was relentless in his attack on Jacob with the snow. Justice is swift.

Lucy got all wet, tired, and bedraggled, but she had a great time.

Miley slept in the stroller until the very last five minutes, so I took him down the monster hill. He's definitely a snow enthusiast.

This is at the top of a MONSTER hill, and we did this all day long!

The messy closet isn't my fault!

There's a rare white haired naked troll living in my closet.

Quote of the Day

"So Ninja's won't find it."
-Lucy, when asked why she was hiding her plastic lizard inside my sock and stuffing it under the blanket chest.

Thanks Leslie for the Cockroaches

Jake has a very lovely sister, Leslie, who shares my enjoyment of practical jokes. She sent me some very life-like roaches in the mail and asked only for pictures in return. Here you go:

I couldn't get them from a great angle or he would know something was up, but believe me, he screamed like a little girl. This is his reenactment:

I finally figured out how to get pictures off my other camera!

Okay, so technically Jake figured out how to get the pictures off, but nonetheless, here are the shots we missed.
I promised some better photos of ice-sliding, and here they are!

Jake and Tate were like Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding, minus the bat.

Tate had the very best wipe-outs but kept right on trying to slide.

Not the most intelligent picture of me, but look what a beautiful day! (about 25 degrees)

Note to self: don't face the setting sun directly when posing for a photo

Miley was suprisingly good at staying up.

Lucy took one too many spills and just gave up the fight to stay upright.

On a snowy day, the light is just right in the kids' room for pictures.

We all LOVE Miley!

They love it, they really do!

Happy Leprechaun Day

Leprechauns snuck into our house last night and turned our milk green. They also left some deceptively tasty looking lollipops that ended up tasting like medicine. Maybe they were in a hurry when they picked them up at Michaels from the almost empty clearance bin the night before St. Patrick's day. Just a guess.

Old Man Winter's Encore!

I've decided that my last two months of posting were a little too "Oh woe is me!" so yesterday we celebrated lots of things we love about living here.
I love that we can (and have to) wear big fuzzy bathrobes in the morning.

I love the bagels here!

It snowed all day (snow day - no school!) and this is the view out my kitchen window. Those three little white beach rocks on the windowsill are kept there all winter to remind me that it doesn't last forever.

We had all the neighborhood kids (12 kids and 3 mommies) come over and we made homemade pizzas and let the kids do everything from rolling out the dough to decorating the tops. They were yummy! Here's some of them playing barbies (the big kids humored Lucy really well) before the pizza making began.

After pizza, which I forgot to take a picture of because it was a little nuts-o, we sent all the kids outside to play in the snow while the mommies ate.
Lucy, Eleanore, and Anna just before heading out into the backyard.

Lucy and Eleanore were determined to be the first on the teeter-totter (thanks Grandpa!!)

After burning off all the pizza calories, the kids poured back into the house for s'mores. Kraft makes coconut covered marshmallows right now for Easter, and those made the tastiest s'mores I've ever eaten.

Tate had several.

We ran out of chairs so Anna and Lucy had to eat on the floor by our ongoing food storage program. I've filled all those containers, I just need to add the O2 absorbers.

Lucy started out with very nice princess manners and ended up with more troll-like manners by the end.

After everyone went home, the kids took out their brains to watch Sponge Bob.

Miles isn't a fan of the Sponge, so he played on his bike but wouldn't let me take off his Bibba (thanks Nana).

After Jake got home (early!!! Thanks Blue Sky!) We all went outside to shovel and play in the snow.

Our neighbors (Happy Birthday Karen!) came out too and before long we were shoveling everything in sight.

Miles got a ride around on his chariot (a borrowed sled) and we had a great time, but our hairdo's suffered a bit.

I had chili and cornbread cooking for dinner while we were outside and it warmed us right up. We wanted to give Jake a chance to try these s'mores (okay, we just wanted more) so we made a few for after dinner too.

It was a really great day (thanks Leslie for the inspiration) but now our cars look like this.

Hurry up Spring!
